About the Band

NCT (Hangul: 엔시티) is a South Korean boy group formed by S.M. Entertainment. Their name stands for the Hallyu localization project Neo Culture Technology, a term coined by S.M. Entertainment founder Lee Soo-man to describe the group's concept of having an unlimited number of members divided into multiple sub-units based in various cities worldwide.

The group's first sub-unit, NCT U, made their debut in April 9, 2016 with the digital singles "The 7th Sense" and "Without You". Their name stands for 'Neo Culture Technology U'. NCT U was described as the main sub-unit of NCT but doesn't have fixed members, the lineup keeps changing for every comeback.

The second sub-unit, NCT 127 (Hangul: 엔시티 127), based in Seoul, made their debut in July 7, 2016 with the mini album NCT #127. The number 127 refers to the longitude for Seoul, where they are based.

The third sub-unit, NCT Dream (Hangul: 엔시티 Dream), made their debut in August 24, 2016 with digital single "Chewing Gum". This unit was meant to be the youngest of the three sub-units consisting of members 15-16 years off age.

The fandom name came into being on June 12, 2017 and was announced through a Naver vLive broadcast by all the members together. Earlier that year they had requested names from the fans and in the end NCTzen was chosen (meaning all the fans are citizens of NCT).

As of February 2018, the group consists of 18 members: Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Kun, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas, Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.

On August 8, 2018 NCT sent out teaser pictures on their Instagram of a new sub-group entitled NCT C, as of yet no official statement has been made as to who is in this sub group but it seems like NCT C will be making it's debut at "Show! Music Core" so stay tuned for future updates!

On January 17, 2019 a new sub-unit of NCT made their debut under the name WayV, this group is set to be the China sub-group. Later that year on September 20th the group announced their official fan name to be WayZenNi.
